"Robert W. Mc Auliffe" :
Mr. Barry Chang BV4VQ, My name is Bob Mc Auliffe my call is W9PRD. I am 82 years old, I have been a licened
Amature Radio Operator for 61 years. In my 61 years I have
never had a Qso with China.
I operate 40 meter C.W. exclusively. My equipment is a
ICOM 718, running 100 watts output. My antenna is a
4 element full size 40 meter beam. I use an open wire feeder system the antenna system is tuned by a MFJ tunner. I have had excellent results into Europe .
I would like to contact you on 40 meter C.W. I think we could do it, using the shoort path. Aiming both our antennas
due North, I am very sure we both would be sucessful.
I am located in Greensburg, Indiana, which is about 55 miles SE of Indianapolis.
I operate daily/nitely, on 7030 khz up to about 7045, looking for DX. I can not operate below 7025 khz. I realize there is a12 hour time difference between us.
I am very flexable, regarding date, and time. I willleave that up to you, in fact any frequency that you would preferr
i the 40 meter c.W. band will be fine, as long as we aoperate above 7025khz.
Thank you so much for reading my thoughts, regarding this endeavour. I know we would be sucessful.

Robert W. Mc Auliffe" :
Thank you so much for answering my recent e-mail Barry.
Yes, Barry you have my permission, to share and contact other amateur radio operators, regarding future scchedules with then on 40 meters.
Tell them I run a Icom 718, it runs about 120 watts output power, as indicated by my MFJ Tuner. I have a 1:1 SWR on the entire 40 meter Band. my antenna feed system is open wire system , that feeds 4 element full size 40 meter beam that is up 55 feet.
This beam is my own design, it is aimed at Europe, it does a fine job into Europe.
I am in the process of puting up another one, tht will be aimed at the North
Pole. By going across the North Pole, this
provides the shortest path to China. so if any Chinese aim there antenna's twoard the North Pole, we both will realize, perfect
antenna alignment, resulting in sucessful , QSO's. Of course we have to favorable conditions.
Be sure and tell tham Barry, I operate, 40 meter C.W. I operate on 7.030 to 7.040mhz . I generally operate around
2000hrs to 2200 hrs. thats (8:00pm est to
10:00pm est)
I am willing to work any time of day ar evening that will be convienent for them.
Thanks again Barry, I look forward hearing from them and you very soon.
Very best of 73's,

Hello Barry, I am enclosing general information about me.
I was born November 17 , 1925
After graduating from high school, I was drafted into the U.S. Naval Aircorps. I served as a radio operator and gunner in torpedo bomber squadron. The palanes used were known as the "AVENGER" Days that I didn't fly, I was assigned to CW circuits to send and receive messages and monitor certain frequencies, report and record any information heard.
When the war was over I returned to my home. The first thing I did was to go take the FCC Test for a Amature Radio License.I was issued the call W9PRD. I have held it for 61 years.
I went to College, became a communications engineer. Worked for the largest
electric power company in the state. There are 96 counties in Indiana , my company provided electric power to 69 of those counties. After a few years I was promoted to chief engineer, I was in charge of the power line carrier systems, 2-way radio
systems and micro-wave systems After 25 years of service I retired.
i was retired very long till I was ask to teach a engineering course at Purdue University . I taught for 8 years. Afew years ago I decided to definitely retire. I have really enjoyed retirement, I now can give Amature Radio my full concentration, working with H.F. Antennas.
You are aware i think of my newest project I have a "STERBA CURTAIN" Antenna, about half built. I have designed it
for 40 meters. Where it will be aimed on Europe . If my design doesn't have any misstakes, it should work better than my 4-element beam.
Now Barry you know me a little better than you did.
Enclosing I am so pleased to have been able to meet you and establish such a nicde friendship.
